This Great Blue Heron I shot just north of the Seattle Arboretum along a bank of backwaters of Lake Washington. It is likely my favorite photograph of a bird to date. It took 20 minutes on my hands and knees crawling under blackberries and in the mud to get and was worth every thorn. I was no more than 15ft away.
Another Grebe photographed in a backwater pond of Lake Washington.
This Grebe was also photographed in a backwater pond of Lake Washington just north of the Seattle Arboretum.
Flickers tend to be a bit spooky so I was quite pleased that this guy posed for me in the Juanita Bay park in Kirkland along Lake Washington.
It is not often that I see the tongue, much less capture it. Apparently the tongue is so long that it starts between the eye and is rolled up and stored behind the head just under the feathers. .
